September Payne, DMA Flute

Dr. September Payne is Adjunct Flute Professor and Music History Lecturer, Emeritus at San Diego State University, Grossmont and Mesa Colleges. She is a teaching and performing faculty member of CICA International Summer Orchestra & Chamber Music Festival in Dallas, TX, and at Raffaele Trevisani’s Summer Flute Course in Milan, Italy.

Former free lance positions include: the Houston Symphony, San Diego Chamber Orchestra, Boston Opera Company, Banff Festival Orchestra, and The San Diego Philharmonic Woodwind Quintet. As former Director of Winds & Brass at the California Institute of Music, conductor of SDSU Flute Choir and CYO Wind Ensemble, Dr. Payne has recruited and mentored many young orchestral musicians. She served as President to the San Diego Flute Guild and was a mentor for NFA’s scholarship program. Currently she is the Director of Music West Flute Studios, a founding member of the Royal Conservatory’s Music Development Program and Co-Founder of San Diego Coastal Flutes, which brings cutting edge projects and international artists to Southern California. As a clinician, she teaches the traditions of her mentors of the French School of flute playing: Marcel and Louis  Moyse, Jean-Pierre Rampal, Sir James Galway, Geoffrey  Gilbert, Albert Tipton, Leone Buyse and Carol Wincenc.
